Fred Frog

Fred Frog lives in a well. At the top of the well there is a bell.
By the well there is a notice. It says:

Fred the Frog
Is in the well.
If you want him,
pull the bell!

One day Fanny Frog comes to visit Fred, and pulls the bell.
But Fred gives no answer.
So she shouts down the well: Hallo, Fred! Are you there?
But no answer reaches Fanny Frog except Oh dear, oh dear!
Poor Fred is very ill, and Fanny puts up a new notice by the well.
It says:

Fred the Frog
Is very ill.
To get him well,
Drop him a pill!

All the frogs in the meadow see the new notice and drop pills in the well for Fred. He tries to eat all the pills, but there are too many. The next day Fanny comes to visit Fred again. This time Fred replies. He is all right again and jumps out of the well.
Good morning, Fanny. he says. Look at my new notice! It says:

Fred the Frog
Asks you to call.
He has flies
To feed you all!

Fanny and the frogs are glad to see the new notice. They jump into the well, and Fred feeds them all with flies. Now the old notice stands by the well again:

Fred the Frog
Is in the well.
If you want him,
pull the bell!
