VPN and WebVPN
|
The Problem: Internet access from home is great,
but the access to some web services is restricted
to computers belonging to the university network.
Online journals, publishers and databases are the most
important examples.
There are different solutions:
- Use a VPN (virtual private network) client at home.
See the
VPN pages of our Universitätsrechenzentrum.
- Access such protected web pages through the WebVPN service provided by our
Universitätsrechenzentrum
here.
- For both 1) and 2) you need an account at the Rechenzentrum
(for "server1.rz.uni-leipzig.de"). Therefore we have our own WebVPN client
running on miserv112.

Single sign-on
|
User management is based on LDAP with the aim of "single sign-on":
One username and one password for all central services.
The one and only way to change your central password is
this web
interface. Presently, we use LDAP for

Mail access (IMAP and POP3 server, squirrelmail webmailer,
smartsieve mail configuration management)
- Login to Miserv112
- FTP access to your homepages
- Access to your "Netzlaufwerk" (backup drive) from Windows
- Access to password-protected web pages (Fakultätsrat)
- Login to SunRay terminals and the SunRay server

Miserv111: File- and backup server
|
|
Everyone can get file space on miserv111 in order to have important
data backed up. Twice a week (Wednesday night and over the
weekend) a tape backup is written.
Windows users access the fileserver by a "Netzlaufwerk". Click in
your file manager on "Extras -> Netzlaufwerk verbinden", enter
the path \\139.18.10.111\<username> and use your
central password to connect.
Linux users can simply NFS-mount their directory from Miserv111.

Miserv112: printserver & gateway
|
Use it to log into the institute's network from outside:
ssh miserv112.mathematik.uni-leipzig.de
or
ssh 139.18.10.112
Home directory is your backup directory from Miserv111.
The private web sites
are accessible under /www/<username>.
File transfer from the outside is possible using sftp or
scp.

Web calendar
|
Everyone can advertice talks, colloquia etc on our
web calendar.
Log in with your central password in order to add/edit
entries. Links in the text beginning with http:// will be
click-able. You can include one or more attachments,
e.g. the poster of the talk as postscript file.
If the calendar looks strange in your web browser, please check that
"Style sheets (CSS)" and "Javascript" are enabled.
